so there’s a pigeon i used to pass by in my old neighborhood all the time and he was really fat because people would just toss him food and literally he sat in the middle of the sidewalk and people would just step over him, he wouldn’t even flinch. seriously you could sit down next to him and just feed him and he would be chill.
he was there every day and all us locals would affectionately refer to him as ‘lard-ass’

Video games have been proven to be a more efficient method of overcoming depression than counseling among teens.
Source

NO. NO NO NO.
"FACTS" BLOG, YOUR SOURCE SAYS SPECIFICALLY THAT IT WAS A “SPECIALLY DESIGNED FANTASY GAME.”
IT WAS A GAMEIFIED VERSION OF COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY, A RECOGNIZED AND GENERALLY QUITE EFFECTIVE FORM OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT.
THESE TEENAGERS WERE NOT PLAYING CALL OF DUTY OR WORLD OF WARCRAFT OR PORTAL OR ANY OTHER VIDEO GAME.
THEY WERE DOING COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY IN A SPECIALLY DESIGNED VIDEO GAME. THERE IS NO DATA ABOUT WHETHER THIS GENERALIZES TO OTHER GAMES. YOU CAN’T MAKE THAT GENERALIZATION.
This “fact” is dangerous. It’s dangerous because it could mean that a teenager with depression will not seek counseling, but will instead continue playing video games with the hope that playing their usual games will help them more than talking to another person about their depression and getting treatment ever could.
For crying out loud, Did You Know Blog, properly represent your freaking source material. Don’t distill it down into a crappy quasi-true statement for the sake of notes like this.
And for any of you out there struggling with depression: Counseling does work. Therapy does work. A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy video game used in a psychological study is an effective treatment, but this “fact” image is making untrue claims. Please, talk to someone if you need help. By all means, play video games for fun if you enjoy them, but please don’t look to them to provide treatment.
And as a general statement, please please please look at the “sources” on these “facts” blog posts before you consider sharing them.

Oh my god I hope people see this note. You CANNOT give such gross over simplifications of these kinds of studies.
